Meme - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "In more specific terms, a meme is a self-propagating unit of cultural evolution having some resemblance to the gene (the unit of genetics). The difference lies in the replicative potential and minimally required resources to replicate. Memes can represent parts of ideas, languages, elemental particles, tunes, designs, skills, moral and aesthetic values and anything else that is commonly learned and passed on to others as a unit. The study of evolutionary models of information transfer is called memetics."
Kieran came over last night and gave me his 45 minute presentation on Memetics, and making it more than just a Proto-science. With my bio and psych background and his incredible psych background, we were able to discuss every point at length--so that the 45 minutes took no less than an hour and a half. After which, we followed our cultural memes and went to BDP.
At BDP there was a frat party initiation, where 15 guys were all drinking straight from pitchers. Half of them were already passed out on the table. Some of them hanging their heads and looking like they would vomit at any moment. A few of them could still stand and were yelling at the rest to keep drinking.
Kieran and I sat, watching them, and I could only think of it as a biological case study. At one point I yelled "Which one of you guys is the ALPHA-MALE??" I think 3 of them turned around, so I hope they're not all applying for that same position-- I mean, we could have some kind of shit-throwing, beer-drinking, dumbass monkey-boy masturbation drunk-off, to see who truly is the best at being the worst. The King of being a drunken idiot.
It really made me feel good about myself that I wasn't drinking at their table, but rather, was having a relaxing beer after talking about theorhetical Psychology for 2 hours. Also, I had watched 3 Cognition lectures that day.
