The sun is beating down upon melting snow, revealing the hidden grass on lower campus. Grass that has frozen and hibernated beneath its icy blanket, blocked from our view. Grass welcoming Spring. Students sit, perched on every sunny surface they can find, warming their faces in the sun. Birds chirp. Squirrels scurry. The breeze --and it is a warm breeze, no icy wind-- washes away stress in an instant. Old French couples walk together, smiling, touching, holding hands. Everyone in this entire city breathes a deep sigh of relief. The anguish and suffering through winter was worth it. We're all reminded why we love it here, just what makes this place one of the greatest on Earth. Montreal.
Shake out the incessant, cold pain from the hands and feet. The constant icy touch is gone. What's left is warmth and life. Life.
There's just too much for my eyes to take in, walking by familiar buildings and faces, glancing all around. Everything looks NEW. FRESH. Happy eyes. Eyes that like what they see. Warmth. Clarity. Peace. Happiness.
All those times we said, "There's still some good in this world,"-- How can it all come crashing back at once? The good, I mean.
I mean, winter will come back. But so will Spring. Ups and downs. Strikes and gutters. The cycle continues, but, for now, we're on top. Enjoy. One of those days.
