The Bush administration is proposing far-reaching changes to conservation policies that would allow hunters, circuses and the pet industry to kill, capture and import animals on the brink of extinction in other countries.
Giving Americans access to endangered animals, officials said, would feed the gigantic U.S. demand for live animals, skins, parts and trophies, and generate profits that would allow poor nations to pay for conservation of the remaining animals and their habitat.
Yay! Killing endangered species in order to make money to protect them! Almost sounds like a good idea. It's like killing for peace.
And thank goodness someone's looking out for 'hunters, circuses and the pet industry' who make up the 'demand for live animals, skins, parts and trophies'! I always wanted a piano with ivory keys. Real ivory, not that fake, non-poached crap. I want nothing but the real thing. "
Recently this kid Zac sent me an email. Apparently he had found my blog whilst doing a google search for his own (god bless google.) as our names are very similar (!). I've been perusing his blog lately and it's pretty good. He has this on-going segment where he lists reasons not to re-elect Bush. I thought to myself, I'm gonna go back and check out all of these reasons he's come up with... just to use it as ammunition against Bush in my own blog. This one really caught my eye. Ok, so you guys know how I'm an environmental-biologist-type guy? This... is.... really.... bad.
I quoted it as the other Zac (from PA btw [thats pennsylvania... not penny-arcade]) has it quoted, and his commentary is there on the bottom. Plus, I encourage the checking out of his site. It's fairly new and he seems to post at least every few days.
One can only ask, did GOD tell Bush to poach and murder endangered species? You'd think that god would want to preserve the bio-diversity that he created in the first place, right? Not if it means that Americans can't have more money and neat stuff.
