The thing that gets me... is WHY bother pretending that we want free trade?
Every chance the U.S. gets it cuts corners and undercuts import prices and everything.
So if we don't want to do it... Why are we still signing these agreements? Why do we have to LIE about it. Why don't we just say "Listen, we think that an American cotton-grower is more important than a Brazilian one... and we're willing to pay him to make him even with any of your gain."
Instead they say:
"In Washington, Bush administration officials criticized the decision, arguing that the best way to address distortions in world agriculture trade was through negotiations, not litigation. The officials also said the United States would appeal, a process that could drag on for months, and possibly more than a year.
'We believe U.S. farm programs were designed to be, and are, fully consistent with our W.T.O. obligations,' Richard Mills, a spokesman for the United States trade representative, Robert B. Zoellick, said in a telephone interview.
'We will defend U.S. agricultural interests in every form we need to, and we have no intention of unilaterally disarming,' he added, referring to the $19 billion in annual subsidies paid out to American farmers."
The fact that he says "DISARMING" kinda frightens me. Are we going to INVADE Brazil just to keep people buying OUR cotton? Should I cancel my planned vaca to Rio? I mean, they DO speak Portuguese... which is almost like Arabic? right?? Close enough, anyways. I mean, they're not speaking AMERICAN--- and they damn well should be! Why don't they just realize that since our country has a bigger military budget we're the boss of the world and our people are more important? Why don't they just kneel and bow their heads and appreciate that?
borders Columbia... Where the drugs that POLLUTE our perfect society come from.
They have minor border disputes with our friends and allies... ummm.... Paraguay and Uruguay.
They're TROPICAL. Since we've lost Cuba, we could use a tropical vacation resort area.... hmmm...
They have rain forests which would be better under our supervision anyways... Maybe they have OIL!
They're involved in a nuclear testing ban... Which restricts our god given right to nuke our backyards or the King of England whenever we want.
The only downside to the war is that Brazil is mainly Catholic, so we can't use the "its ok to bomb them because they're Muslim" excuse. Although that excuse has been working so well on our brainwashed population so far.
President Fernando Henrique Cardoso YOU'RE GOING DOWN!
oh, btw, we could shake them down for the 2.5 billion they owe us since the 70's.
Now, lets look at the Brazilian military---
They spend 1.1 Billion on military each year. With almost 30 million men of fighting age and health.
We could take them. We could take them and then set up a failing pseudo-democracy. A demo-crazy. We could take them but then not leave enough soldiers to defend the country from terrorism. Plus, with all of these rumors you hear about Brazilian waxing and such, I'm sure our prison- guards will find a way to have fun with the inmates. ;-).

So that was me being a war-mongering American Imperialist. And to the Canadians out there: We're not all really like that! Many of us like ideas such as Peace and Love and mutual prosperity. I'm sure that The Other Zac would agree.
