I don't know if I've done this yet, but I want you guys to check out Boston's blog from time to time. He's much more articulate than I am, and, being a poli-sci major, he knows his shit. So check it out.
In other news, I'm very much back and hard at it with my computer up and running again. yay!
I was cleaning out some old school shit from back in the day and I want to share a paper I found--
It's from my 9th grade Ancient History class and it's a comparison of the downfall of the Roman Empire to the American Empire now (and its... downfall...)
Ok here:
A COMPARISON OF U.S. 2000 and ROME IN DECLINE
Factors in Rome----Comment on U.S.
1. Poor Leadership----umm... yeah.
2. Increasing gap between rich and poor----yes.
3. People living off grain dole----welfare? yeah.
4. Countryside Unemployed----debatable...
5. Pollution (lead poisoning)----ever increasing... PLUS, we're drilling in ANWR.
6. General Malaise----honestly, if every person who said "eh, my vote doesn't even count" would VOTE we'd be so much better off.
Number 6 is the big one. People don't even care what their government is doing, and we're the number one world power. Christ. What does it take to interest you people? We have the power to DESTROY this planet thousands of times over, but you still don't want a say in politics? What if I told you that it's free? You just have to GO to the polls. Lazy fucking country...
It still amazes me that only about 20-30% of the country votes at ALL. The other 70-80% of the people are the reason that Hitler came to power, in my opinion.
Your say does matter! You can make a difference!
If you don't like the 2 party system, then don't feel like you're trapped. BY the people FOR the people, remember? I'm assuming if you're reading this that you're "people". Vote. Change things. Hell, just vote for me if you want and I'll make the changes. Is that easier?
And I know the arguments. johnkerryisadouchebagbutimvotingforhimanyways.com is a good point, but if you don't like how things are you can change them. A 2 party system is archaic and just... dumb. No. The world isn't black and white so why should we try to force it into that?
I'll tell you this, I hate the democrats because they want more of my money for programs that I don't usually agree with. I hate republicans because they want WAR and GOD in my life.
I like abortion... so I'm a democrat. No, I like tax breaks... so I'm a republican. Wait, I want to be friends with other nations... I'm a democrat. Oh, but I do like cheap gas prices.... but not if it comes at the cost of Iraqi schoolchildren or, christ, even a national wildlife refuge.
I'll tell you what I am: I'm an independent and I'm voting for Ralph Nader. He's more socially liberal than I am.
It's not even that I agree with him, it's just that he's going to be the strongest 3rd party candidate and I want to help THAT cause. It's my vote to "waste" and this is what I ultimately want. I refuse to accept that politics is no place for dreaming. I refuse the idea that voting outside the 2 parties "just isn't pragmatic". I REFUSE.
