VOANews.com: "And America has always been a giving nation that will respond in time of need. And so we are making the United Nations aware of our willingness to participate in whatever relief efforts that might be appropriate,' he said.
Despite the icy political relationship with North Korea, the United States has long been the single-biggest provider of food aid to that country, committing 100,000 tons of food last year for distribution through the U.N.'s World Food Program. "
Ok, I understand how people hate us sometimes... but not all the time. Like, I can see how if we leave your country in this disgusting state of abandonment and poverty--or like if we tested nuclear weapons in your little country or something-- but like... sometimes we're REALLY REALLLY good people. I'm sick of people hating America because of our "foreign policy". No. Our political foreign policy is AT LEAST well-meant. I want nothing but to help people. Even if we're invading Iraq, there's an argument that we're "liberating" the people.
Your argument should be against our corporate system and this half-assed mess of globalization. Blame Wal-Mart, don't blame the U.S..
And what the fuck is North Korea's problem then? Granted, we disagree ideologically, but we're FEEDING them. Without UN help (which the US leads) the peasants and such would starve and die. Doesn't that make them question their system a little? The fact that their own government cares more about researching nuclear weapons than their own safety?
Granted, I guess their idea is to make weapons then demand more food... but... that's so stupid. That's so counter-productive to a peaceful, organized world that we should be working toward. God. Why can't we all just get along?
