Sometimes I just really hate our world. Why can't EVERYONE (that includes you: Bush, Sharon and Paletinian leaders) get the fuck along. Seriously. Don't you realize that you're KILLING people for LAND.
Yeah, that's really worth it....
Stop with the petty shite and think as HUMANS, not as Israelis or Palestinians. Not as Jews or Muslims.
It just irritates me that people can perpetuate this nonsense. I was under the impression that everyone on this planet was given a brain, but apparently I was WAYYYY over-estimating politicians and military personnel. Not that I blame a soldier for doing his job, but don't do it WITHOUT hesitation.
If you're told to kill, do it if you think it's the right thing to do. Historically speaking, many revolutions and great progressions of mankind have come about as a result of the military saying "no". It would be hard for George Bush to strut around the world "backing" this country and condemning this other country if all the soldiers would just say "I refuse to die for these stupid politics."
I refuse to die for stupid politics. There's a start! Who's with me??
So I have some advice for the world-leaders today and the future world-leaders tomorrow. Knowing that my opinion means nothing and that they're never going to read this-- I put forth what little my two cents is actually worth:
1. Pre-emptive = bullshit. Unless you've got some serious facts backing this shit up, it should be like when you kill someone in self-defense. If I were to do that, the burden of proof is on me to show that it WAS, in fact, self-defense. What about you, George? Now you have to prove to us that the Iraqis were up to something. If not, then we were lied to, and I'm am for GOD-DAMNED sure not voting for a (known) liar.
B. I know that every country should look after its own interests first, but seriously, some things are just way more important to ALL of us. Make the sacrifice if it means that we're going to survive as a species on a healthy planet. This rule can apply, but is not limited to, environmental regulations and restrictions, OIL, rain-forests, nuclear weapons... etc. etc.
We should be working TOGETHER to solve the problems that threaten us as HUMANS before (if ever) we address the petty differences in-between.
3. Everyone needs to take responsibility for their own actions. I can remember talking to Mr. Woodsum about how people say "like" and "ummm" all the time as a subconscious way to absolve themselves of blame. If I'm telling you a story, I say 'like' a lot so that if I actually get parts of it wrong, it's not my fault. I told you what it was LIKE, not exactly what it was. We need more EXACTITUDE. People need to take responsibility.
D. The news is never 100% accurate. Every piece of information that you sense is all propaganda to one extent or another.
5. A life is a life. I don't anyone to tell me that it's ok for 5 Iraqis to be killed because they're not American. I don't want anyone to tell me that it's ok that ONE American died because he killed 5 Iraqis before being shot. War shouldn't be emotionless. We've evolved these emotions to get along as a species. These emotions are rooted in behavioral genetics and it's crap that we suppress them for the greater good of war.
For those of you who say "War is a part of human nature." I tell you this: Eating fat is a part of human nature too, yet for the most part, we have the will-power and inner-strength to over-come it when we diet. Let's try something new: Diet-War.
F. As idyllic and tranquil as I'd like this world to be, I accept that war is sometimes necessary. Hence my support for the thinking soldier. If the war is worthy enough, people shouldn't even need to be ordered to fight. People will do so voluntarily. As Woodsum said, "Nazis are bad. We can all agree on that." So yeah, if there IS evil threatening our world, we will rally and fight it. If not, we SHOULDN'T fight. If not, we have no reason to fight. There should be no drafts. No GIGANTIC standing militaries. No spending more than 1/2 of a nation's budget on defense during peace-time. No stupid, bull-headed, stubborn, thinking with our dicks, ignorant, "kill the other guy because he's different" attitudes.
7. Any sort of free-trade agreement where the parties are not on equal ground (legally and otherwise) should be scrapped. Is it ok for little children to work their fingers to the bone making your clothes because they aren't your neighbors? Well, I got a little surprise arse-hole. They are your neighbors. They're sharing this planet and are part of our species also. They should be in school. I was reading this article taped to the bathroom stall the other day about these work-to-school programs. Where instead of working, the children are sent to school (up to 4th grade, I think). Everyday at school, they're given food to take home to their impoverished families. This way, the kids get to go to school and the food they provide makes up for the work that they aren't doing. Now THAT'S a good idea. Who wouldn't donate a couple of bucks to that cause?
What about if they don't have the same environmental restrictions? That's not fair to the workers and VERY unfair to our biosphere. If you can make the same cell-phone in Brazil cheaper by just dumping your excess wastes or by polluting the air, the planet gets hurt and workers here lose jobs needlessly. My father and I even agree on this point.
I apologize for any excess biological jargon. It's merely my perspective.
So lets open up the forum for discussion. I'm sure that Connor will have insights. I know that Kyle will have some facts or witty comments. Sammy, you should have some things to say too...
