CBS News | Kerry Fires Back On Vietnam | April 27, 200418:41:10: "
"I think the Bush campaign, Bush and Cheney are on an absolutely idiotic track, none of these guys served," Karnow continued. "Bush wiggled out of it. I'm not going to hold it against Bush for doing that. I think the Vietnam War was a disaster and if you could get out of going fine... The children of privilege didn't serve Vietnam."
Is Bush's campaign actually this dumb? They're attacking Kerry for his service, when he served 2 tours and won all of these friggin' medals. Seriously. Even if he came back, protested the war and threw his medals away, he still EARNED them doing SOMETHING. He still jumped off the boat to save his entire unit by practically killing all these Viet-Cong with his bare hands. Christ.
And another thing! Who even cares? There have been some excellent presidents who NEVER served a god-damned-day in the military. There have also been some incredible generals and war-heroes who've been terrible presidents (take U.S. Grant or W.H. Harrison for example, way back in the day).
Even Clinton had the intelligence to know that, himself being a Vietnam-dodger, he shouldn't attack his opponents on those grounds. The man couldn't get away with adultery, but he knew not to throw stones in a glass house.
As far as I'm concerned, the only person in current administration who deserves any say on any of these matters is Colin Powell. That guy took a pun-ji stick-trap-thingy through the foot, man. AND went on to serve another tour and save his comrades from a burning helicopter.
Who the fuck do George Bush and Dick Cheney think they are??? How many dying soldier-friends have they carried, bloody, from a flaming wreck? Do they think that we're all THAT stupid!??!
Here's a man who can't even prove that he ever even served in the National Guard, and he thinks he has the right to attack someone who did 2 tours in the Mekong Delta? It's bad enough that he blatantly lies to the world (including us, the voting-populace) and tells everyone that we'll find all these WMD in Iraq. Or that it'll be a SWIFT and QUICK war in Iraq.
Come to think of it, isn't this the same man who ran in 2000 on the platform of being the "great unifier". He's been one of, if not the most divisive presidents that our country has ever seen. God damn it.
Someone HONESTLY tell me why I should vote for him. Give me just a few good reasons. I mean, I've been looking through newspapers and reading all of these articles lately... But... I can't really find any redeeming qualities for this man, as of late. I'm trying not to be biased, but man... How can his approval rating be even as high as 50%. He's managed to cut science research, push back the pro-choice gains from Clinton, put us in 2 wars (one of which we're not even winning), fucked up an un-fuck-up-able rebuilding process in Iraq (with wayyy too few troops to even begin with), piss of the rest of the security council (save MAYBE Britain), impose this weird... Half-free-trade dichotomy, AND cut down the breeding grounds of THOUSANDS of Caribou for 2 days worth of oil in ANWR (remember that??).
To you, George W. Bush, I have this to say. Even if you win this November I'll never forget that you DESTROYED the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Iraq, our economy, our scientific community, and our world-wide prestige. You can take your god and your FREEDOM FROM THE ALMIGHTY and shove them squarely up your Texan ass. You may represent my country, but you'll never represent me.
And so, I'm gonna go ahead and "apologize" to my family for "becoming liberal" but WTF? I know I'm not the only one with a brain here, come on, people.
